Read previewThis as-told-to essay is based on a transcribed conversation with Sydney Baker, 27, about her experience working in office cubicles. AdvertisementBaker's first office cubicle space. People think cubicles are dreary, but decorating them can make them light and brightMy preconception about cubicles was that they didn't get a lot of sunlight. I also like that cubicles can be social, but you also have the flexibility to not be social when needed. I've never worked in an open-plan office but think I'd prefer the privacy cubicles affordI've toured open-plan offices but never worked in one.

More than 1,000 flights were canceled so far Tuesday morning, mostly at the airports in the New York City area and in Boston. It was the first major snowstorm in New York City since February 2022. The city, which has the nation's largest school system, switched to remote learning and closed its buildings Tuesday because of the storm. Some of the highest snowfall totals were forecast for the northern suburbs of New York City and southwestern Connecticut, according to the National Weather Service. Dan McKee signed an executive order shuttering state government offices Tuesday and banning tractor-trailer travel on all interstates and state roads beginning at midnight.

Nowinski, a WWE wrestler turned neuroscientist, told CNN Sport that head injury protocols need to go beyond treating concussion. SumUp Chief Financial Officer Hermione McKee said the fresh capital gives the company "more firepower to act on opportunities," including acquisitions and new country launches. British payments startup SumUp, known for its small card readers, on Monday announced it has raised 285 million euros ($306.6 million) in a bumper round of funding that values the company north of $8.6 billion. The round predominantly consisted of equity, though a small portion of the funds was raised as debt. Then we look at Asia, how do we think about that region, and then obviously opportunities across Africa. A SumUp spokesperson confirmed the deal is an up round, meaning its valuation is higher than it was previously.

Kenya's President William Ruto called the treaty “the first domino” in a shift away from plastic pollution. The U.N. Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on Plastic Pollution is charged with developing the first international, legally binding treaty on plastic pollution on land and at sea. Kenya is a global leader in fighting plastic pollution, and in 2017, the country banned the manufacture, sale and use of single-use plastic bags. Nonetheless, he said, it is evident that negotiations have moved beyond plastic waste and into addressing plastic production and toxic chemicals used to make plastic. “The focus is on ending plastic pollution, not plastic production," he said.

Exxon combined its once separate chemicals and oil refining businesses and redesigned operations to quickly shift between fuels and chemicals based on which delivers the highest profit. Its fuels outlook differs from oil-consuming nations group International Energy Agency, which expects the use of oil for transportation fuels to decline after 2026. "We have the hypothesis this could be a game changer for Exxon Mobil," McKee said. The company's 564,440 barrel-per-day (bpd) Baytown, Texas refinery, which is co-located with a chemical unit, will allow it to evolve from primarily making fuels to chemicals, Williams said.

(AP) — Hurricane Lee looks poised to wallop New England later this week even as the region still deals with the impact of days of wild weather that produced torrential rain, flooding, sinkholes and a likely tornado. Areas from Watch Hill, Rhode Island, to Stonington, Maine — including Block Island, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket — are under a tropical storm watch. The National Weather Service in Boston said radar data and videos showed it was likely that a tornado damaged trees and power lines in Rhode Island and Connecticut on Wednesday. Heavy rain turned his swimming pool into a mud pit and filled his basement with 3 feet (91 centimeters) of water. In Providence, Rhode Island, downpours flooded a parking lot and parts of a shopping mall.

Five other current or former agents confirmed to Insider that some Arias agents wrote up policies in the names of fictional people or people who were dead. Amy Williamson, an attorney who represents dozens of current and former Arias agents in civil claims, said she received an inquiry from a US attorney's office. With regard to Insider's specific questions about Globe, AIL, and Arias, she said, "It is the Company's policy not to comment." Lusty asked questions about Russin's campaign of aggressive social-media posts since Zinsky filed suit, Williamson said, including posts about his gun purchases. Since Zinsky filed suit against him, Russin has made a string of threatening social media posts featuring firearms.

It sounded like popcorn warming in a microwave: sporadic bursts that quickened, gradually, to an arrhythmic clatter. “There it is,” Mary McKee said, staring out the front door of her home in Arlington, Va., on a recent afternoon. McKee, 43, a conference planner, moved to the neighborhood in 2005 and for the next decade and a half enjoyed a mostly tranquil existence. More arrived in short order, spreading out until there were six games going at once. Together they produced an hourslong ticktock cacophony that has become the unwanted soundtrack of the lives of McKee and her neighbors.

They said two in five people seeking food assistance in the Atlanta region this year have not done so before. In central Ohio, the local food bank says the number of households seeking aid has increased by nearly half since last year. Craig Gundersen, a Baylor University economics professor who is a prominent researcher for Feeding America, said that food banks experiencing spikes above COVID levels are outliers. The Highland Food Pantry in Winchester, Virginia, said it served about 90 families a week during the pandemic. In early April, White visited a community center to donate old clothes and noticed a line for the food pantry.
"There wouldn't be a Good Friday agreement to celebrate today if it were not for the women of Northern Ireland," Clinton said, to applause from the audience. The peace accord largely ended 30 years of violence between mainly Catholic nationalist opponents and mainly Protestant unionist supporters of British rule. Other recipients included Ireland's first female president, Mary Robinson, Northern Ireland's first female first minister, Arlene Foster and Lyra McKee, a journalist who was killed in 2019 during an outbreak of the sporadic violence that still exists. "I was amazed that my name was among such an illustrious group of women," Avila Killmurray, a co-founder of the Women's Coalition, said at the ceremony. "However it's really nice because I worked mainly with women in local communities and I think very often their contribution over the years doesn't go recognised enough."

While there may be an argument for expurgated versions of some books for young children, adult readers should face squarely our literature as it is — flaws and all. Al McKeeSan FranciscoTo the Editor:Efforts by literary executors, editors and school systems to sanitize the writing of past generations is nothing new. Notoriously, the 19th-century Bowdler editions of Shakespeare scrubbed away all unsettling sexual content. Victorian translations of classical texts scrubbed away all references to homosexuality, creating an illusion of heteronormativity where it never existed. Late 20th-century library shelves were purged of books that expressed racist, antisemitic and eugenic beliefs, creating a comfortable delusion that such opinions were rare.
WELLINGTON, March 27 (Reuters) - New Zealand intelligence agencies are growing more concerned about both foreign interference and malicious cyber activity ahead of elections in October, the country’s intelligence chiefs said on Monday. “It's fair to say that concern about foreign interference as well as malicious cyber activity is growing,” Andrew Hampton, director general of the New Zealand Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB), told media after testifying at parliament. Security services are working with the election authority to improve cybersecurity and procedures and will also brief political parties on security and foreign interference threats. Both the GCSB and Security Intelligence Service chiefs were speaking before the intelligence committee that includes the country’s Prime Minister as part of their annual review. “Foreign interference should not be tolerated,” McKee said.

The gunmen continued to fire while the detective was on the ground, McEwan said. The primary focus is on violent dissident republicans and within that there is a primary focus as well on New IRA," McEwan told BBC Northern Ireland. While the peace agreement largely ended three decades of sectarian violence in Northern Ireland, police officers are still sporadically targeted by splinter groups of mostly Irish nationalist militants opposed to Britain's rule over the region. The last time a police officer was shot in Northern Ireland was 2017 and the United Kingdom last year lowered its Northern Ireland-related terrorism threat level for the first time in more than a decade. "Unfortunately this is a stark reminder for our colleagues that 25 years on from the signing of the Good Friday Agreement, policing in Northern Ireland is still a very dangerous occupation and carries extreme risk," Kelly said.
An Arkansas GOP lawmaker asked a transgender pharmacist about her genitalia during a bill hearing. "That's horrible," Gwendolyn Herzig replied when McKee asked her, "Do you have a penis?" McKee asked Herzig, who was testifying against the bill at the time, prompting her to respond, "A trans female, yes sir." "You're the one that brought that into the discussion," McKee told Herzig, who shot back: "I never said anything about genitalia." Herzig told Insider on Wednesday that she felt "shock" and "disgust" when McKee asked about her genitalia.

[1/2] Screenwriting mentor Robert McKee speaks at Tel Aviv University on the final leg of the farewell tour for his lecture series in Tel Aviv, Israel November 24, 2022. "I see the future as rather brilliant, but it's not in the cinema," McKee told Reuters during a visit to Israel, the final leg for the farewell tour of his lecture series. "And great television does exactly that," added McKee, the author of five books who has, for decades, delivered what the New York Times dubbed "the most popular screenwriting seminar in the country" to tens of thousands of students. "I don't care," about the changing economics, said McKee, who plans to develop a new seminar which he will deliver online. "My quest is: How can I make these irreducible components of story clearer so that people will get it faster and better?"
